GUPTA, P.D.,J.P. HENRY, R. SINCLAIR,AND R. VON BAUMGARTEN. Responses of atrial and aortic baroreceptors to nonhypotensiue hemorrhage and transfusion. Am. J. Physiol. 21 I (6) : Ipg-1437. 1g66.-The activity of aortic and atria1 type B baroreceptors was compared in 2 I experiments in 15 chloralose-in-saline anesthetized dogs in the course of stepwise bleeding and transfusion. When the alteration-in-pulse frequency was taken into account, the integrated ,impulse rate or “drive” from the aortic receptors was found to remain essentially constant during moderate volume changes. However, there was a sharp alteration in the activity of the atria1 receptors. This amounted to an 807~ decrease in firing rate with a 20 y0 blood volume loss and a fourfold increment with a 20% increase in blood volume. The triggering during nonhypotensive hemorrhage of various homeostatic responses such as tachycardia and the release of antidiuretic hormone is discussed in relation to the above disparity of receptor drives.

Neural control of renin secretion in anesthetized dogs. Interaction of cardiopulmonary and carotid baroreceptors.
Vagal cold block increased arterial blood pressure but not the secretion of renin (radioimmunoassay) in 17 of 20 anesthetized mechanically ventilated dogs with aortic nerves cut and carotid sinuses intact. Vagal block caused an increase in renin secretion in four dogs with aortic nerves cut when the carotid sinuses were vascularly isolated; this was abolished or greatly attenuated when the caro...
متن کاملEffect of carotid or aortic baroreceptor denervation on arterial pressure during hemorrhage in conscious dogs.
We studied the effect of chronically denervating aortic baroreceptors (ABR; n = 6) or carotid baroreceptors (CBR; n = 7) on mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) responses to hemorrhage in the dog. Neither denervation had a significant effect on basal MAP, the variability (standard deviation) of MAP, or resting HR. However, the breakpoint of MAP (defined as the volume of blood remove...

In 10 dogs MAP was altered from 30 to 300 mm I-Ig while keeping mean right atria1 ...

We studied the effects of slow continuous hemorrhage (0.5 ml/kg per min) on measurements of arterial and left atrial pressures, and renal nerve activity in conscious dogs with all reflexes intact, or after sinoaortic baroreceptor denervation, cardiac denervation, or sinoaortic baroreceptor denervation plus vagal denervation. In intact dogs, mean arterial pressure remained relatively constant at...
